Snake River Acres is a family owned company located in Grasston, Minnesota. We are dedicated to raising happy, healthy sheep with high quality fleeces while continually striving for excellency through innovation and sustainability. With help from our local Natural Resource Conservation Service office we work with our farm’s natural environment providing native plant species for the pastures and keeping our waterways clean. Our flock is Ovine Progressive Pneumonia (OPP) free thanks to collaboration with the Minnesota Animal Board of Health and the University of Minnesota. Lastly, we understand the importance of teaching future generations about agriculture and closely work with Minnesota Lamb and Wool Producers Association to educate and promote sheep. You will often find us at the Baa booth at the Minnesota State fair, Shepherd’s Harvest or various other events throughout the year. We are the newest co-owners of Snake River Acres, and became part of the business shortly after we were married on October 14, 2017. Jamie has been working off the farm since graduating high school, but is here helping every weekend. Jennifer graduated from the University of Minnesota Crookston in 2016, where she earned a B.S. in Animal Science and a minor in Agricultural Business. She left her previous job to become the farm’s full-time sheep manager. We currently live in Isanti with our troop of pets, including two dogs, two cats, and a guinea pig.
I’ve always had a passion for animals and am guilty as charged for bringing the first sheep home. Although I don’t work with the sheep every day they are still very dear to my heart. My passion for the flock has driven me to pursue my education further so I can be better informed and help advance knowledge to provide the best care for my flock and other livestock. Currently, I am pursing a PhD in animal science at Lincoln University in New Zealand looking at the metabolism of an alkaloid produced naturally in grasses in ruminants and their potential effects on microflora, and gastrointestinal nematodes. Prior to that I completed two Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of Minnesota in Animal Science and Agricultural Education. I also hold a master’s degree in Biological Science with a dairy production emphasis from South Dakota State University. My master’s thesis was looking at a blend of essential oils and prebiotics in the growth, health and immunity of dairy calves.
